BROOKLYN -- Marcus Bartley's 24 points led all scorers as Saint Louis won the first game of the Atlantic 10 Tournament, defeating George Mason by the final of 83-78.
The sophomore connected on eight of his ten field goal attempts, and shot 7-of-8 from three-point range as the Billikens (11-20) shot 52 percent from beyond the arc to outlast the Patriots, (11-21) who placed five scorers in double figures, led by 17 points from Marquise Moore.
Davell Roby had 18 points in the winning effort for Saint Louis, who will advance to face George Washington in a second-round matchup at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Ash Yacoubou, the former Villanova transfer, contributed 14 points for the Billikens. For George Mason, both Marko Gujanicic (13 points, 11 rebounds) and Shevon Thompson (10 points, 15 rebounds) recorded double-doubles. Jaire Grayer and Otis Livingston chipped in with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Saint Louis led 32-23 at halftime, and withstood a late rally by George Mason to prevail.
