“Perfect. We’ve got guys getting a little bit more comfortable. Dev missed a month and a half, so it’s just guys getting comfortable. When you’ve got shooters, you gotta let them shoot.”
On Villanova’s offensive balance:
“We’re not pounding…Duke is great. He’s a great roller, great rebounder, he does so many good things for us. But we’re not a huge post-up team, so when you have guys that can really fill it up, then we start playing with good tempo and pass the basketball…I mean, 28 assists. In the first half, we had 17 assists on 19 field goals, so to do that early in the year is pretty darn good. When you have guys that are making shots, I’m gonna let them shoot it. (Bryce Lindsay) shot 44 percent as a freshman last year in a really good conference, (Devin Askew) shot 42 percent, so we’ve got good shooters. It’s just a matter of understanding that early in the season, guys coming off injuries, new lineups, new everything, it just takes a little time.”
On sharing the ball and Acaden Lewis’ passing:
“Yeah, everyone just needs to let Acaden grow. It’s just his third college basketball game, so he gets it, he knows where guys are, he’s getting more comfortable. You can’t expect miracles after three games, and I think — again — all these guys are starting to understand that if they do the right thing, play the right way, they have total freedom. And I think that’s what we saw a little bit of tonight.”
On turning a corner three games into the year:
“No, we still have a lot of work. A lot of work. Defensively, we’re just not good. We have guys that have injuries, so it’s hard to get better when you have guys out, even if it’s maybe a guy that wouldn’t play that much. I’m putting too much stress on them in practice with reps that they have to take, so we need to get our guys back healthy and they need to realize that they need to practice, because it’s important to the team. Kids don’t realize that.”
