Kevin Willard quote book: Old Dominion

By Jake Copestick (@JakeCopestick)

On shot selection in the first half:

“I just think we just got more aggressive off of the dribble.”

On it being a good thing that they were in a close game:

“No.”

On Tyler Perkins’ team-high 21 points:

“Tyler gives us great energy. I think he’s still trying to figure out a little bit of what he’s doing and what we need him to do, but he just gives us great energy. To start the second half, he gets two big steals, gets a layup, makes a good pass. Tyler just gives us energy and some toughness. I think he’s really starting to figure out, ‘how do I play in the system?’”

On Old Dominion’s outside shooting and three-point defense in general:

“Don’t schedule good shooting teams.”

On Bryce Lindsay’s defensive potential:

“Yeah, for good reason. I think we’re getting on him, too.”

On Acaden Lewis’ play since the BYU game:

“Excellent.”

On playing smaller tonight without Duke Brennan:

“I think that’s something that we’re still not very good at because we just haven’t had time to practice it. The more we practice it, the more we’ll be comfortable with having five guys out there that can shoot, pass, and drive. I think that was a little bit more of a first-half problem, that we just haven’t practiced it that much, so when you haven’t practiced something very much, you go out there and try to do it, you usually don’t do it well.”

On Lewis’ steady play:

“He’s super talented. If you look at college basketball this season, this freshman class is loaded. This is probably one of the best freshman classes in maybe five or ten years. The NBA Draft is going to be loaded. We got a really, really talented freshman. He’s going to get better and better every game, he’s getting a little more comfortable. I had a really talented freshman last year (Derik Queen). It’s fun to have really talented freshmen.”
