Kevin Willard quote book: La Salle

On Matt Hodge’s feel for the game:
“Matt’s been as solid as anybody. I think he’s getting a little bit more comfortable with how we’re trying to play, and also being back is much different than being in practice. He’s working really hard and put himself in this position.”

On coaching his first Big 5 game:
“Being part of this tradition’s really special. Philadelphia basketball — whether it’s high school, college, NBA — has an unbelievable tradition. Great players, great teams obviously, so to finally be part of it is really special.”

On playing small and Villanova’s versatility:
“We haven’t really been able to work with a small lineup because of injuries, so I’m actually looking forward to having Matt and Tafara out there together because I think you’ve got two guys that can shoot it. We just look a little disjointed because we really haven’t done it that much.”

On Hodge opening up driving lanes:
“Their switching really bothered us a little bit, so I gotta go back and look at that. But when you have five guys out that can shoot the basketball and drive, I think it opens up a lot of options.”

On Villanova’s guards enabling him to experiment with lineups:
“I think it gives us a chance against teams like this who are a little bit smaller. We’re doing a lot of switching, it kind of gives us opportunities to match up with them. And then, obviously we’ve got Michigan, Wisconsin, UConn’s big, St. John’s is big, but throughout the game, maybe we’ll throw a curveball at them offensively or defensively. I think it really helps.”

On his main takeaway from tonight:
“Good road win.”
