All season, Steve Masiello has praised Aaron Walker's star power and precocious talent. Four games into the Queens native's rookie season, his ability has already garnered him Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference honors.
Walker was named MAAC Rookie of the Week Monday afternoon after a three-game stint averaging 12.3 points per game and shooting 50 percent from three-point range as his Manhattan team competed against the likes of Winthrop, Hofstra, and Temple. The former Cardozo High School standout and Most Valuable Player of last year's SNY Invitational has scored in double figures in each of his last three contests after being held to eight points in the Jaspers' season opener at Bucknell. On the year, he is averaging 11.3 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, and 13.5 points per game since being inserted into the starting lineup this past Friday.
Walker is the first Manhattan student-athlete to earn Rookie of the Week honors since RaShawn Stores, now on Masiello's staff as a graduate assistant coach, was recognized in a similar fashion in February 2013.
Fairfield's Tyler Nelson was named MAAC Player of the Week.
