The St. Francis Terriers lost a heartbreaker on Tuesday night to the Central Connecticut State Blue Devils, 73-71, as Kyle Vinales hit the game-winning three with 2.6 seconds left.
Vinales led CCSU with 23 points on 7-for-17 shooting and 4-for-8 from behind the arc. Only one other CCSU player was in double figures, Brandon Peel with 10 points, and Faronte Drakeford, Malcolm McMillan, and De'Angelo Speech had 8 apiece.
St. Francis led 40-35 at halftime, mainly on the strength of Ben Mockford's 12 first half points, as he drained four three-pointers. Mockford led St. Francis with 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting and was 6-9 from behind the arc. Brent Jones chipped in 13 (4-10 FG, 3-5 on 3-pt), with 6 assists.
St. Francis falls to 15-12 overall and 6-6 in NEC play with the loss, and they hit the road to play St. Francis (PA) on Thursday and Robert Morris on Saturday.
