JAMAICA, NY -- In a second-round game of the WNIT held at Carnesecca Arena, St. John’s held off a rally by Harvard to hold on for a 62-57 win. The Red Storm advance to the quarterfinals, where they will play the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
St. John’s led for almost the whole game, but saw a 13-point lead early in the fourth quarter whittled down to a two-point lead with 2:42 to go in the game. Harvard had the ball with a chance to tie with about two minutes to go, but could not convert as St. John’s held on for the win.
Aaliyah Lewis and Maya Singleton led led the Red Storm in scoring with 16 and 13 points, respectively. Singleton also led both teams in rebounding with nine.
The St. John’s-Michigan matchup will see head coach Joe Tartamella face off against his old boss, Michigan's Kim Barnes Arico, who was St. John’s coach from 2002 to 2012.
