MAAC Monday: Efficiency refresher, stat leaders, power rankings

With the conference season now in its second half, this week's "MAAC Monday" revisits each team's efficiency numbers in its opening segment, before transitioning into stat leaders and power rankings once again. In our November 30 debut edition of this column, Fairfield held the top spot in possessions, averaging 76.33 trips down the floor per game. Two months later, the numbers stand as follows:

Possessions per game (from highest to lowest)
1) Fairfield (75)
2) Monmouth (74.5)
3) Iona (73.05)
4) Siena (73)
5) Canisius (72.43)
6) Marist (71.3)
7) Quinnipiac (70.53)
8) Manhattan (70.21)
9) Niagara (67.83)
10) Saint Peter's (67.53)
11) Rider (67.36)
Analysis: The Stags retain the top spot, and have not sacrificed their uptempo ways through the first half of the MAAC slate. Monmouth has seen a slight uptick in possessions since our last chart prior to the opening week of league play, whereas Iona, Siena, and Canisius have all slowed down a bit since then. Marist, however, has picked up the pace by over three full possessions to vault into the middle of the leaderboard as head coach Mike Maker is starting to get greater contributions from his young squad despite a long losing streak. Quinnipiac has also pushed the ball further over the past several weeks, and while Rider has gained over five trips down the floor since our last look, the Broncs still bring up the rear from a pace perspective.
