Scott Machado will be seeing professional action after all, but just not directly in the NBA.
The Iona guard, who was signed by the Houston Rockets as a free agent in September, will be assigned to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBDL, according to Mark Berman of KRIV in Houston. Machado was assigned to the Vipers, the Rockets' developmental affiliate, along with first-round NBA draft pick Royce White and 2011 draft choice Donatas Motiejunas.
Machado made Houston's opening day roster when Shaun Livingston was waived on the final day of the preseason, but has yet to see any playing time for coach Kevin McHale. By sending him to the NBDL, the Rockets are actually doing him a favor by keeping him active and on the court, which will serve both the player and team well later in the season should something happen to incumbent point guards Jeremy Lin and Toney Douglas.
A Daly Dose Of Hoops will have further updates on Machado and his progress throughout the season.
