Sha Sounds Off: Creighton

On Godswill Erheriene:
“Yeah, I don’t know. Something happened with his elbow. I didn’t talk to Tony (Testa) or the doctor yet, but they said he couldn’t return. I guess I’ll find out once I get back.”

On motivating Seton Hall for the Big East tournament:
“You know, it’s what I told them in the locker room. This game of basketball is funny. There’s highs, there’s lows, you just gotta peak at the right time. I thought we were peaking and I thought we played some really good games even though we lost, I thought we gave ourselves a chance to win. Tonight, Creighton came in and just jumped on us from the door. They’re a tough matchup, man. When they’re shooting the ball like that, plus they got the big fella down low (Ryan Kalkbrenner), if you double (him), they make threes, if you don’t double, he could hurt you. But we’ll find a way. Tomorrow’s gonna be our first day off in like, a week and a half. The schedule’s just been brutal all around with three games this week and obviously the last seven games, we’re playing the top teams in the league. For a basketball player, I love it, for a coach, I don’t love it.”

On Isaiah Coleman:
“It’s a learning process. I’ve been watching film with him a lot, I’ve been showing him what teams are doing, being super physical with him, trying to take him out. Sometimes you gotta let the game come to you a little bit and do other things, right? You gotta get rebounds, you gotta push the basketball. We’re really good when our guards are rebounding and pushing, that way it’s hard to deny you the basketball. You gotta move, set screens and get offensive rebounds, which he was doing at a time this year, he was scoring (and) getting offensive rebounds. So it’s part of the process, it’s part of growing up. He’s a sophomore, he’s a good player. People feel like if they could stop him, they could stop us, so it’s a good learning lesson for him. I tell my guys all the time, if you’re aggressive, I’m okay with it. Sometimes he’s being aggressive, at times he is, but a lot of people are standing around and watching, too, so when you stand around watching, that kind of happens to him. But for the most part, he’s getting shots I want him to get and he just hasn’t been hitting them lately.”

On Georgetown’s 2021 Big East tournament championship being a motivator:
“I’ve been telling them about that. I also told them about my first year here. DePaul beat us and they were having a tough season. It’s all about, especially in that tournament at that place, teams get a little tight. I was telling our guys I think we played tonight, and I don’t know why. We’ve been playing loose the last couple games, we played tight tonight. Maybe it’s senior night, maybe it was because it was home, the last game, I’m not sure why.”

On his message to his seniors:
“It’s not over yet. Obviously I wanted to win for them and the team wanted to win for them tonight, we’re disappointed that we didn’t get a chance to win for them tonight, but the season’s not over yet. I’ll have that message for them when it’s over. It’s not over yet. We still got some more basketball.”

On what could have been had Chaunce Jenkins been healthy:
“There’s a bunch of what-ifs, right? What if with Zion? What if with Garwey if he was healthy? What if Dylan didn’t get hurt? What if Chaunce? There’s a bunch of what-ifs. I just know that this team is better than what we showed this year, and that’s the disappointing part, that’s the frustrating part. We had some good moments, we just can’t finish it out, man. This team played hard and I’d be willing to bet you that too many teams don’t want to play us in the tournament because of how hard we play, right? I don’t know. We just never got a chance to put it together. Too many people were out at different times. I tell these guys all the time, I learned a lot this year, and a lot of what I learned is what not to do, and sometimes that’s better than learning what to do. So we’re gonna regroup, I’m gonna regroup. I want to say thank you to the faithful fans that have been coming out, man. These guys have been coming out, it’s been a tough year and they’ve been here, I’ve been seeing them, I’ve been hearing them. I just want to thank them, the team wants to thank them. I know it’s been a rough year, but we’re gonna be back. Trust me. Believe that. I’m always juiced up, but I’m even more juiced up now to get back at it. We’re gonna be back, that’s all I gotta say.”
