“This was an embarrassing performance by us. Give Villanova credit, they came out and punched us in the mouth, and we took it and just ran away. Embarrassing all around. It’s gotta get better, we gotta have a short memory. We’ve got a very good Xavier team coming in on Wednesday, so we gotta go back and fix a bunch of things to get ready for that game.”
On pulling his starters early:
“I pulled everybody. Nobody was playing well. Rest what? These guys had rest the whole week, some guys didn’t practice, they were taking days off because…whatever. Nobody was playing good. I was just trying to get some guys to get out there and play with some energy and some life.”
On Isaiah Coleman:
“I’ll be honest, I don’t think there were any bright spots. Zay’s been playing well for us, he’s playing well, but this is tough, man. You can’t — and this league is too good, man. This league is very good top to bottom. You can’t come out and play the way we played, and you can’t prepare that way either. JB, I give him a lot of credit. He didn’t practice the last three days, he had the flu, so to get out here and play the minutes that he played, I was happy to see that. Also Elijah as well, he hurt his hamstring in the game against (Georgetown), and we just had a couple of guys that needed a couple days off that couldn’t practice. And this is what happens when you don’t practice and you don’t prepare.”
On Villanova’s defense of Dre Davis and Kadary Richmond’s early foul trouble digging a hole for Seton Hall:
“You know what? We kind of knew that the way they play defense, they kind of load up, right? We didn’t move the basketball, we didn’t do all the things that we talked about the last two days, but it’s hard to do that too when you don’t have a full roster practicing, right? You have guys watching from the sideline instead of going through it. I don’t want to take anything away from Villanova, man. They played really well, shot the ball really well. We just didn’t, just not great today.”
On not having a full roster to practice:
“They didn’t practice, Jerry. They just didn’t practice. Like I told you, two guys were — Elijah was out with his hamstring, JB had the flu, a couple guys needed some more rest.”
On Richmond’s foul trouble:
“He’s gotta play better defense. He’s gotta learn he can’t be reaching. He’s gotta play better defense, that’s what it is. Not just him, all of us today. We gotta play better defense. They shot the heck out of the basketball. They shot the ball very well, they made 14 threes. I mean, that’s…hats off to them.”
On positives from today’s loss:
“Any positive? You tell me. You think we could get any positive from a game like this? No. Nothing positive, boss.”
On Villanova’s Brendan Hausen:
“We knew the scouting report, right? Guys knew the scouting report. He’s a great shooter, he moves, he can shoot from deep and get it off quick. I don’t think our focus was there. It wasn’t there the last couple days and it definitely wasn’t there this afternoon. He’s a good shooter, he’s a good player, man. He can get the shot off quick.”
On concerns with Seton Hall’s bench:
“I’m not concerned. This is February, right? This is the time you want to be playing your best basketball and for all the young men that have dreams and aspirations of playing at the next level, there’s no time to be fatigued. There’s no time to be tired, there’s no time to be none of that. If you’re fortunate to make the next level, they play what, 84 games? Ain’t no tired, ain’t no fatigue. I give guys enough rest. We just got embarrassed. Like I said, they punched us in the face and we ran away.”
