“I don’t know. You gotta ask Tony (Testa). I didn’t know something happened. If I knew, I’d tell you, Jerry. I have no idea. I didn’t think anything was wrong with him.”
On what went wrong for Seton Hall:
“I’m gonna keep it very simple for you guys today, very simple. Give Marquette a lot of credit. We got our ass kicked, period. They say that when you win, it’s on the players and when you lose, it’s on the coach, so this is on me. I allowed us to practice like s*** the last two days, and that’s how we played. And that’s what happens when you don’t prepare well, you don’t play well. Period. It’s not rocket science, I’ve been saying it the whole time: When we prepare well, we play well. When we don’t, this is what happens. We kind of got back down to earth. The guys got big-headed, we got humbled quick. That’s what happens when you get big-headed. You get humbled quick.”
On Saturday’s game taking the wind out of Seton Hall’s sails:
“It’s college basketball, Dan. Everybody’s playing on a short turnaround. (Marquette) played the other night, too, and they had to travel, so they came in, they wanted it more and we didn’t prepare well. I was very upset the last two days with our preparation, and it showed today.”
On his substitution patterns:
“I was trying to get some juice. I was trying to get guys to go in there and play. The group that normally has juice didn’t have any juice, so I was trying to get some juice. I thought Tae Davis, the freshman, came in and gave us some juice, which is good because I think we’re going to need him down the stretch. Bottom line, you gotta play, man. You can’t come in and get embarrassed on your home court. I know things happen in college basketball, but I’m very disappointed.”
On Seton Hall’s bye week:
“You could look at it two ways: You could look at it like we need it, you also could look at it like a good team would want to play right away after getting beat like this, so we’ll see. We’ve got a couple of guys banged up, so I gotta be smart with it and see what happens.”
On Dre Davis:
“I’ll be honest, man. Nobody did anything today. But Dre, we need Dre to get back on track. He hit a couple of shots, that was good, but we’ve gotta defend. I’ve been telling you guys after every win, after every loss. We have to defend, and we didn’t defend today. Marquette is a very good team, very well-coached. Their style of offense messes a lot of people up because they move a lot, and when you’re not disciplined, they exploit you. And I think we got exposed a little bit with some of those back cuts and some of those ghost screens. We just didn’t handle it well, which is disappointing because I thought we had a good game plan going in. We didn’t prepare well at all, though. I’ll go back to that. We didn’t prepare well, and that’s what happens when you get big-headed.”
On Seton Hall halfway through Big East play:
“It’s hard to tell. I think we lost three in a row and I thought there were two games we could have won. I thought we played well enough to win the Providence game, I thought we played well enough to win at Xavier, and then kind of fell apart from there. Creighton kind of embarrassed us a little bit as well, and Marquette did the first time at home. You know what? I think with this team, Jerry, to be totally honest with you, I don’t want to say too much else. We just didn’t play well. I think we’ve got some work to do this week, I think it’s going to help us, and we’ll see the second half of the season. Me, personally, because of who I am and the kind of competitor that I am, the kind of player that I was, I want to win every game. I think we should be…what are we, 5-5? What’s our record? I think we should be somewhere like maybe 7-3, or 6-4. Do I take 5-5? No. What coach would? What type of coach, with anything in them, would take 5-5? No, you want to try and win every game.”
On Alexis Yetna’s availability:
“That kid, I’m going to keep it simple. He ain’t f****** playing this year, alright? He ain't f****** playing. If he was playing, then we would have him. I’m tired of answering questions about this f****** kid. He ain't f****** playing, he ain’t helping us. Thank you, guys.”
