A guard projected to add to St. John's depth upon his arrival has now become the program's latest departure.
Mikey Dixon, who transferred to St. John's in the spring of 2017 with three years of eligibility, and sat out last season before returning to the floor this year, is transferring once again. News of the redshirt sophomore's exodus was first reported by 247Sports and Fox Sports college basketball insider Evan Daniels, and later confirmed by the New York Post's Zach Braziller.
Dixon, a former Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year at Quinnipiac before departing in the wake of former coach Tom Moore's dismissal, appeared in each of the Red Storm's first 14 games, starting one against Princeton on December 9 in the Holiday Festival. The Delaware native averaged 5.9 points per game, shooting 46 percent from the floor, but only logged a combined seven minutes in St. John's first two Big East Conference contests against Seton Hall and Marquette, and will now have to sit out another year before regaining eligibility next December wherever he lands.
Moving forward, freshman Greg Williams figures to receive the bulk of minutes off the bench in the backcourt, alongside sophomore Bryan Trimble, who was the only other reserve other than Dixon to average more than seven minutes per contest. Regardless, it makes the already thin rotation for head coach Chris Mullin even slimmer as the heat of conference season approaches.
More information on Dixon's transfer will be posted as it becomes available.
