This past season's unfamiliar result have led some to wonder if the end of an era at Marist is near, but based on the Red Foxes' nonconference schedule released Thursday morning, head coach Brian Giorgis is not thinking that way.
Ten-time Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champions during Giorgis' thirteen-year tenure, Marist has once again scheduled with the notion that they will be among the elite teams not just in the MAAC, but also the nation as a whole, with their ten-game non-league slate.
The Red Foxes will christen the 2015-16 season at South Dakota State on Friday, November 13, returning the favor from a game the Jackrabbits traveled to McCann Arena for last season, a contest Marist won by the final of 82-64. Following the opener, the trip to the Great Plains continues two days later, when the Red Foxes invade Omaha for the first meeting in school history with Creighton. The Bluejays, led by senior guard Marissa Janning, are one of two Big East programs on the ledger for Marist.
McCann Arena hosts the Red Foxes' home opener on November 19 against CAA powerhouse Delaware, with Marist heading on the road once more on the 22nd of November to face St. John's at Carnesecca Arena in a return match from last season's contest in Poughkeepsie, one in which the Red Storm prevailed in the waning seconds to eke out a 49-48 win in November 2014. Next up following the showdown with St. John's will be an excursion to Florida for three games in the Gulf Coast Showcase from November 27-29. At the present moment, the remainder of the tournament field has yet to be announced
Following the traditional opening of MAAC play on the first weekend in December, the nonconference slate resumes on December 12, when Marist heads to Boston to take on Boston University, once again returning a game held last season at McCann Arena. The Red Foxes conclude their first half of the season with two more home games, first against Hofstra on December 20 before hosting fellow mid-major juggernaut Princeton on the 29th of December. The Tigers were a Top 25 team for most of last season, and were undefeated going into the NCAA Tournament. All times are to be determined.
